To you in your troublesome time,
The summer months may be some of the most trying times of the year. It seems like all of your friends are out enjoying the temptations of life and your stuck in your sober rutt. There are so many other activities that trump going to a party and being charmed into the indulgences you’ve worked so hard to steer clear of.
I really hope that you haven’t been stuck in the house all of this time while the sun is shining and the palm trees are swaying. Why would you be home while the sky is blue? Even more so, why would you be home while the clouds are grey? Shouldn’t you be dancing in the rain, celebrating your new life. Being sober isn’t as bad as it seems. Just think of how you used to have fun before you hit rock bottom. You were so youthful and and had no worries. This is such a perfect time to reminisce, maybe go back in time and revisit some of your favorite childhood spot to kick your summer into full swing. It’s such a joyous and momentous occasion to finally enjoy yourself. I’m sure you’re not in this transition alone. You have family and friends whose greatest desire is to see you happy, healthy and jovial.
The trick to enjoying the summer day is to make them active, relaxing and inspirational. Go to the beach and have a picnic. Dip your feet in the water or submerge yourself in the lusciousness of the beautiful blue ocean. Go to a water park or an amusement park. A place with youth will always remind you of your young fun self without substance. Many people recommend bowling or going to the movies to for some fun in the shade and air conditioning. Another thing that’s also fun is getting in the kitchen. There’s always a new recipe coming out on social media so learning how to whip up something delicious will be a crowd pleaser at your next event.
Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean that you have to stay at home and be down in the dumps and in hiding from the sunlight like a vampire. This time of year is supposed to be an enjoyable break from reality. Take time out to really enjoy yourself because these are days, hours and minutes going by that you can’t get back. Seize every single day for the rest of the summer. Like Dr. Steve Maraboli said “ your life isn’t behind you; your memories are behind you. Your life is ALWAYS ahead of you. Today is a new day- seize it!
