Quick, when you think about pot smokers and the munchies, what foods do you think of? Taco Bell was likely at the top of that list, maybe cheetos or doritos, donuts or a giant bowl of cereal- something fast and easy to access that doesn’t take a whole lot of thought or effort to consume. Marijuana and fast food have formed a sort of mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship, so much so that one Wendy’s location in Ohio apparently tried to provide a two for one deal.
You can imagine Dezeray Risner’s shock, horror, and disgust when she discovered that her four year old daughter’s french fries had a bit of additional seasoning in the form of marijuana.
The outraged mother discovered the marijuana in her child’s food when she complained about the taste. Risner examined her daughter’s food and found not only weed, but cigarillo wrapping paper as well.
Understandably infuriated, Dezeray called the Wendy’s located in Huber Heights and demanded to speak to a manager. She said the alleged manager who answered, named “Megan” laughed at the situation and told her “bring it in and we can determine if it needs to be taken to the general manager.”
At that point Rizner returned to the store and was told none of the employees were in possession of marijuana. She promptly headed to the police station to file a report, which states that an officer immediately detected a pungent marijuana scent.
Wendy’s has released a statement declaring they will investigate the situation:
“Please know all of our customers as well as the quality and integrity of our food are a top priority at Wendy’s and we are taking this very seriously. We are currently conducting a thorough internal investigation and the Human Resource and Legal departments are both fully cooperating with police in their investigation. We will get to the bottom of this issue as soon as possible. It is as important to us as it is to the community.”
While it is refreshing that Wendy’s is stepping in to take care of this situation, that it occurred in the first place and was handled so poorly by the manager of the location in question in appalling. Thankfully the young girl in question did not experience any adverse effects, but her mother has come under fire from people who do not believe her story or criticise her for going to the police over “just weed.” Shortly after news coverage began of the situation, commentators flocked to her Facebook page and began accusing her of attention seeking and attempting to extort money from the company.
To those allegations she had this to say:
“I do not care who does or does not believe the incident happened. At the end of the day she is my daughter and it will forever be my responsibility to protect her with everything I have. I did what I felt was right and I stand by my decision… no matter what gets said, the truth will come out.”
