Even Batman has to face his demons at some point.
Ben Affleck, the newest actor to step into the character of Bruce Wayne shares more in common with the caped crusader than we knew: he opened up to Vanity Fair to admit he struggled with alcohol abuse and recently completed alcohol rehab. Reportedly this is Ben’s second time tackling his alcohol abuse disorder- in 2001 he entered treatment as a ‘pre-emptive strike’ because of family history.
While sources close to the Oscar-winning actor and director claim he entered alcohol rehab of his own resolve and without any sort of prompting incident, Affleck’s fans are concerned. Many suspect the recent marital issues with Jennifer Garner and ridicule over ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ may be connected to his return to treatment.
Ben addressed these rumors directly on his Facebook page, stating:
“I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction- something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront…I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.”
Affleck recently backed down from directing The Batman to focus on his portrayal of the Dark Knight instead. He and Jennifer Garner are focusing on co-parenting their children and providing a stable and supportive home atmosphere.
At Harbor Village, we commend celebrities who use their spotlight to bring awareness and encouragement to addiction recovery. Ben joins the likes of Russell Brand, Robert Downey, Jr, and Demi Lovato in being some of our most visible recovery warriors!
