Harbor Village Talks to Hillary Clinton in Coconut Creek– TODAY

Hello happy– and maybe not-so-happy– readers!

Today Harbor Village will attend Hillary Clinton’s rally hosted by Broward College’s North Campus. Alexandrea and I will be on-scene to get the latest scoop on Hillary’s proposed drug reform policies. (We’re crossing our fingers there will be an open-forum.)

Let me get this out of the way right now: Harbor Village does not officially– or unofficially– support any presidential nominee. We’re taking the opportunity to attend Clinton’s event principally because she’s a hop, skip, and a jump away from our office.

During Clinton’s presidential campaigning she’s taken a special interest in visiting states plagued with addiction in an attempt to understand what the people need to overcome deadly substance use disorders. Departing from her typical arms-length decorum, Clinton got close and personal when speaking with mothers who have lost their children to overdose, and those still struggling to overcome addiction.

Since meeting with people plagued with addiction, Hillary proposed a $1 billion dollar plan to bolster efforts in combating addiction directly.

“Everywhere I go to campaign, I’m meeting families who are affected by the drug problem that mostly is opioids and heroin now, and lives are being lost and children are being orphaned. So I have tried to come out with a comprehensive approach that does tell the states that we will work with you from the federal government putting more money, about a billion dollars a year, to help states have a different approach to dealing with this epidemic.”

Conversely, in 2015 Clinton supported medical marijuana and proposed the federal government ease judiciary punishments for those in possession of the schedule one substance. Though, Clinton is often blamed for “The War on Drugs,” her recent stances of drug reform promote leniency, and favor treatment over incarceration:

“I do support the use of medical marijuana, and I think even there we need to do a lot more research so that we know exactly how we’re going to help people for whom medical marijuana provides relief. So, I think we’re just at the beginning, but I agree completely with the idea that we have got to stop imprisoning people who use marijuana.”

    Here’s a run-down of Clinton’s views on drugs.
