Tiger Completes ‘Intensive Program’ following DUI Charge
Tiger Woods Back on the Saddle
Last month, the media reported Tiger Woods’ run in with authorities when he was found asleep at the wheel of his vehicle at 2am in Jupiter, Florida. While many originally assumed he had been drinking and driving, reports confirmed that Woods was under the influence of prescription medication with no alcohol in his system. The medication was supposedly for pain and sleep problems, reportedly from a back surgery performed just months before in April.
After the incident was reported, Tiger Woods appeared on the front page of every major news source. This attention coupled with his past series of poor decisions definitely did not reflect well on the once reigning golf champion. With this unsolicited attention, Woods knew that something had to be done in order to protect his already diminishing image. Without providing many details, Tiger Woods revealed to the world that he had been seeking treatment for this problem. Woods stated:
“I recently completed an out of state private intensive program. I will continue to tackle this going forward with my doctors, family, and friends. I am so very thankful for all of the support I’ve received.”
Tiger Not Out of the Woods
It is questionable whether or not just a little over a month can kick a prescription abuse issue, but only Woods, the facility, and his physicians can make that call. We do not believe that a short series of what was referred to as ‘intensive’ can fix this problem. It is understood across the spectrum of substance abuse that it takes a full time, sometimes lifelong commitment to remaining sober.
We hope that this is a wake up call for Tiger Woods and those across the nation battling with prescription drug abuse. There is something to be learned in the experiences of others and their lessons. From this point on, we sincerely hope Woods gets the correct help in order to avoid a repetition of events like this.
