Keeping Up with Lamar Odom: First Public Appearances Since Near-Fatal Overdose
If there’s one thing we love to read about here at Harbor Village, it’s stories of perseverance and triumph over substance abuse. We’ve been following the story of Lamar Odom’s recovery since we first heard about his unfortunate overdose– rumored to have been triggered by the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality TV show. Thankfully Lamar pulled through, despite numerous health complications in the first few days following two women finding him unconscious in the Love Ranch outside of Las Vegas. He awakened from a coma and is slowly healing, regaining the ability to walk, fine motor skills, speech, and overcoming lapses in memory one day at a time.
Throughout it all fans of Lamar have stood by him, sending their support and love. Unfortunately, there was also tons of criticism- a majority of it senselessly flung at Khloe Kardashian, his pseudo-ex-wife who devoted much of her time to being by his side. His children also had a chance to spend some time with him during his hospital stay and even saw him during the Christmas holidays.
Recovery has been a bumpy road for Lamar in other ways, too; reportedly, he was adamantly refusing rehab upon waking up, even going so far as to call his former dealer to his hospital room. This infuriated Khloe, who left and did not return for three days. Now it seems that, with Khloe and the Kardashian clan behind him, Lamar elected to enter rehab after all: he reportedly transferred to a private rehabilitation facility in the days following his release from Cedar Sinai in Nevada.
In total, Lamar spent about three months in the hospital recovering from the damage caused by his overdose. Fans, well-wishers, and media outlets everywhere waited on baited breath to see when, where, and how he would make his first public appearance since October 2015.
I turns out, he had a little help from close friend and pseudo-brother-in-law, Kanye West.
Odom’s first official public appearance was at Kanye’s fashion show during New York Fashion Week on February 11th. Us Magazine reports that he was surrounded by member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, seen relaxing in his seat while the others danced along to the music. Kanye himself helped Odom to his seat to applause and cheering from the audience (a move some have criticized as a publicity stunt).
Odom appeared to be enjoying himself, smiling and bobbing his head to the music. It’s been said that the rapper showed his new music to Lamar during visits to the hospital, which helped cement their bond. Since then, Odom has been spotted at local grocery stores and restaurants, slowly reintegrating into his ordinary life.
By no means is Lamar’s recovery journey over. He is still struggling with the physical effects of his overdose, as well as the subsequent strokes and brain injuries. Enveloped by loved ones and supporters who want to see him remain sober and regain his health, it seem Odom is on the path to a better, healthier life at long last.
Do you think the Kardashians and their fast-paced lifestyle will be more helpful or harmful to Lamar Odom’s recovery? Tell us what you think in the comments!
