Things have been relatively quiet for world-renowned golfer Tiger Woods. After the scandal surrounding his divorce and multiple alleged affairs, Tiger has spent the last few years attempting to repair his public image and reputation. His life has been relatively quiet once our attention moved to the next big celebrity fall from grace. That’s why his early morning DUI arrest took everyone by surprise.
According to police reports, Tiger Woods was found unconscious behind the wheel of his car in Jupiter. He then refused to take a field breathalyzer test, claiming his incoherence was the result of strong pain killer medications prescribed because of a recent back surgery. After conducting field sobriety tests, Jupiter police arrested Woods for driving under the influence- though two breathalyzer tests later conducted at the jail would show his BAC to be 0.0.
Though evidence seems to support Woods’ claim that he was not driving drunk, the 14 time golf champion was certainly impaired and should not have been behind the wheel of a car. Images released of the incident show his car only partially pulled off of the roadway, with two flat tires, minor bumper damage, his right blinker on, and the engine running despite him allegedly being unconscious when police approached his vehicle. After his release from jail, Tiger Woods released a statement:
“What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.”
Video released by the Jupiter Police Department show his failure of several field sobriety tests and confused, slurred speech. Despite being in central Florida, he reportedly told officers he was headed to L.A. and seemed to have trouble following instructions. Currently, Tiger Woods is scheduled to appear in court on July 5th.
