Actor Maureen McCormick (58) opens up about her battle with cocaine addiction as a budding young actress, who was poised to take the world by storm. Unfortunately, McCormick’s addiction stunted her mounting acting career early on. The actress recalls showing up to her meetings with producers high on cocaine, according to Red Book. From the tender age of 18 the
American sweetheart struggled with the eating disorder bulimia, while also abusing cocaine. In her memoir Here’s the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice, McCormick says, “I sought refuge in seemingly glamorous cocaine dens above Hollywood. I thought I would find answers there, while in reality I was simply running farther from myself.”
The Brady Bunch actress confides that her addiction was so out of control that she engaged in sexual conduct with her drug dealer in exchange for cocaine. She also reveals an interesting detail about her relations with her acting partner, Barry Williams, (who played Greg Brady) with whom she engaged in an amorous fling. Eventually McCormick received the drug rehabilitation that she needed, with the help of her husband, Michael Cummings. The now-active actress credits him with saving her life from cocaine.
Recently, McCormick has enjoyed appearing on I’m a Celebrity where she was forced to eat a stir fry patty of various worm entrails. The actress has fully recovered from her addiction, and continues to participate in the public eye as a figure of rebirth and strength.
