15 Ways to Spend Your Sober Summer 2017!
Summer is officially here! Time for warm weather, relaxation, and celebrations! For some, summer is the time for family vacations and play; others look for their great summer romance, or exploring the world- either by themselves or with friends.
Then there’s the other way people spend their summers: in a drunken haze or under the influence of drugs. Partying and blackout drinking sounds like fun- except it’s not. It’s dangerous and frankly unnecessary- there’s a thousand different ways to have fun without being in an altered state!
We’re going to give you 15 ways to spend your sober summer 2017!
#1. Hit the Beach!
If you live near the ocean or a lake, take the time to appreciate the sun, sand, and waves! A relaxing day out on the beach by yourself or with your loved ones can be all it takes to turn everything around.
#2. Go on a Road Trip!
Gather up your besties or take a solo journey and discover this country of ours! (Or, just what’s on the other side of your state.)
#3. Go Horseback Riding!
Animal therapy is great for everyone- rather you are in recovery or not! Hit the trail with your favorite maned companion!
#4. Try Out Speed Dating!
Single this summer? Put down Tindr (Or Grindr- we’re not judging!) and find yourself a singles meet up! Face to face is a great way to get to know people.
#5. Visit Home!
If you moved away from your hometown, going back can bring back nostalgia for some great memories! Is your home a little further? You can still rediscover your roots by….
#6. Travel Outside of the Country!
Travelling outside of the country! Going overseas or across border is more than an adventure- it’s a great way to get to know yourself and those around you.
#7. Take a Nature Hike!
Become one with nature! Sometimes all you need to recharge your batteries is to get away from it all and spend some time in nature. Just don’t get lost out there!

TV and film aren’t the only way to appreciate acting talents. Support your local theatre by taking in a play or musical! There’s lots of hard work that goes into these productions!

Who says learning has to end just because it’s summer? You can combine furthering your education and travelling by studying abroad! Expand your horizons by exposing yourself to different cultures and ways of life!
#12. Adopt a Pet!
Start your sober summer with a new companion! Furry, scaly, slimy, or what may have you- getting a pet can make your summer ten times more fun! Just make sure you can take care of your pet properly and you are committed to pet ownership.
#13. Volunteer for a Cause You Believe In!
Make your voice heard! Your opinion matters, and promoting important causes and raising awareness is a great and selfless way to spend your sober summer!
#14. Train for a Marathon!
Improve your physical fitness this summer! Set yourself a goal for where you want to be by the Fall and work steadily toward it- you’ll be amazed by the results!
#15. Pamper Yourself!
Rather it’s a trip to a spa or a home DIY face mask and manicure, pampering yourself this summer is a great way to pass the time! Tight on money? You can always find a Groupon or cheap hacks to do yourself.
